Last night, Team Maryland formally announced that Tony Horacek will be the new U15 and U16 National Head Coach for the 2019-20 season. Horacek brings over 20 years of coaching experience at the professional, collegiate, junior, and youth levels of hockey. He also played fifteen seasons of professional hockey in the NHL, IHL, and AHL. Horacek was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks, played with the Philadelphia Flyers, and competed in the Stanley Cup. Prior to his professional career, he played Major Junior Hockey for the Spokane Chiefs, Kelowna Wings, and the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL.
“No other program in the northeast can offer the hockey path Team Maryland does,” said Team Maryland (U15/U16) Head Coach Tony Horacek. “Team Maryland is a Tier 1 Youth Hockey Program that has an EHL affiliate, an NAHL affiliate in the Maryland Black Bears, and a USHL affiliate in the Youngstown Phantoms. This is the only program in the region that offers this type of ascension opportunity to the young hockey players that are willing to work hard, put in the time, and stay dedicated to the process.”
“What Tony has done throughout his career in hockey speaks for itself and this hiring continues Team Maryland’s commitment to adding elite, high character coaches to its staff,” said Team Maryland Executive Director Mike Weiss. “Adding Tony bolsters Team Maryland’s coaching lineup to the strongest it’s been and measures up with all the elite hockey programs in the country.”
Horacek's unique approach to coaching will elevate Team Maryland players both mentally and physically, while demanding accountability. The track record for Horacek’s ability to advance players from each level of hockey is unmatched. Players under his wing have been tendered for junior hockey, received offers from NCAA Division I and III schools, and been recruited for other hockey programs in Canada.
Horacek concluded, "I look forward to contributing to Team Maryland and continuing to grow the championship brand. This program is second to none in providing players with the best path to collegiate, junior, and professional hockey.”
Tony Horacek is running a 5-session battle camp open to 2003 and 2004 birth years only. Click HERE for more details!
