Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Team Maryland’s U16 American group won the Clearwater Thanksgiving Tournament by going 4-1-1. The round-robin format enabled Team Maryland to compete against all of the talent over the weekend.

Team Maryland fought hard in the semi-finals against the Oakville Rangers. The contest went into triple overtime with the score tied 2-2. Team Maryland finally prevailed when Forward Alex Chaconas scored with an assist from Defensemen Daniel Tomashevsky. In the championship match, Team Maryland goalies Trevor Ziffer and Alex Emam combined for a 3-0 shutout against a strong Tampa Bay Scorpion team.

“I’m proud of the boys for the character and heart they displayed throughout the tournament,” said Head Coach Matt Reid. “Even though we didn’t play our best hockey, the tremendous effort and continuity we showed this weekend will only give this team the ability to prosper going forward as we go up to Lake Placid for the Northwood Prep School tournament. It’s really exciting seeing this team improve, work hard, and grow.”
