Evan Green, Team Maryland’s veteran defenseman and captain, has committed to Becker College. The commit represents the first of the 2019-2020 Eastern Hockey League (EHL) season for Team Maryland and the second in franchise history. Becker College is an NCAA Division III school that plays in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Evan Green is 6’1, 200 pounds, and was born on April 15th, 1999. The St. Charles, Missouri native is in his last season of Junior Hockey. Green has now played three seasons under Team Maryland’s Head Coach/General Manager, Josh Fusco. Before Team Maryland, the captain played two seasons for the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights.
Coach Fusco issued the following statement responding to Evan Green’s commitment to Becker College:
“Evan has turned into a tremendous leader and someone that we wanted in Maryland to help build the culture and get our program going in the right direction,” said Fusco. “He plays a heavy game, and he's a tough player with a hard shot. He always has a strong presence on the ice. I am very proud of him and excited to track his progress throughout his collegiate career."
Green took a moment to speak with the voice of Team Maryland, Ben Lloyd and said the following about his decision to play for Becker College:
“I’m very excited, the goal of junior hockey is to move on to the next level and I’m happy to get that monkey off my back,” said Green. “Being the first one (to commit) on this team means a lot and hopefully there are more to come.”
Team Maryland has shown tremendous improvement from year one to year two. They currently hold a playoff spot and are coming off a big sweep of the North Carolina Golden Bears. Green was quick to point out the progress the team has made saying, “We’re a whole new team this year. There is a whole different culture in the locker room this season.”
