Team Maryland is proud to announce that the 18U Junior Prep team will be joining the North American Prospect Hockey League for the 2019-20 season. The showcase style league will be in addition to their AYHL schedule. TM will join the newly formed East Division and compete in five NAPHL showcases.
The NAPHL has distinguished itself as a premier route to the highest levels of junior hockey. No surprise since the league is run by the NAHL. Team Maryland’s affiliation with the Maryland Blackbears was one of the driving factors behind the decision to join the league.
“Our program’s number one goal is to make great young men. A close second is moving those great young men on to the next level. The NAPHL puts our organization in a great position to do that. Playing in the same rinks as NAHL coaches who have tenders that can only be used in our league, puts all member teams at a great advantage. Not to mention we will be sharing facilities with the Blackbears for the first time this season.” (Christopher Ceransky, Hockey Director)
The numbers don’t lie. Last season 336 players made DI commitments in the NAHL, 39 of those were NAPHL alumni. On top of that 22 NAPHL player were selected in the NAHL Draft and another 49 were signed to tender. Possibly the most shocking stat is that in the past 7 years 28 NAPHL alumni have been drafted in the NHL. With these numbers rising every season, it’s clear the NAPHL is quickly becoming one of the best midget leagues in the country.
“The NAPHL is the perfect storm for us; a steppingstone to the next level, highly competitive, realistic travel without sacrificing strength of schedule, and the most professional league staff I have ever dealt with. As someone that has worked with their league staff as a coach in both the NAHL and the NAPHL, I can tell you there are none better.” (Ceransky)
The Junior Prep team will play their first NAPHL games in Blaine, MN at the NAHL Showcase.
