Over the course of the two-day USHL draft, three Team Maryland players from the U16 group were drafted by the Youngstown Phantoms. The three players were Center/Forward Jesse Horacek, Forward Quinn Kennedy, and Forward Ethan Ouyang. This will be Horacek’s first year with Team Maryland and signifies the continued desire for top talent to come to the organization. He scored 13 goals and had 23 assists for the Palmyra Black Knights last season. Kennedy has spent his entire Tier-1 youth career with Team Maryland and finished with 17 points in 20 games with Team Maryland U16 National last season. Ouyang played with TM for four seasons and had 14 points in 22 games this past season.

Team Maryland continues to produce premium hockey talent ready for the next level. Last year, the organization had two players drafted in the 2018 USHL draft. Goalie Dominic Basse was drafted by the Youngstown Phantoms and Bryce Montgomery was drafted by the Waterloo Blackhawks. The direct team affiliation between Team Maryland (AYL), Team Maryland (EHL), the Maryland Black Bears (NAHL), and the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL) is starting to bear fruit and represents the pipeline’s vast potential for player advancement.

“We are so proud of Quinn, Jesse, and Ethan for being selected in the 2019 USHL Draft,” said Team Maryland Executive Director Mike Weiss. “Team Maryland is fortunate to have affiliate teams that play in two of the best Junior Hockey leagues in the country with the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL) and the Maryland Black Bears (NAHL). This pipeline allows our players to gain premium exposure to next level hockey, practice on ice with the teams, and receive instruction from some of the best coaches in the country. We are excited to see Quinn, Jesse, and Ethan seize this opportunity with the Phantoms and continue to progress as hockey players.”

"We are very excited about the opportunity to draft these three talented players from Team Maryland," said Youngstown Head Coach Brad Patterson. "Jesse, Quinn, and Ethan are all high-character individuals that bring a unique skill set and promising potential for the future of the Youngstown Phantoms. Team Maryland has established itself as a quality developmental youth program known for producing top talent. The Phantoms Coaching Staff is excited to evaluate these young men further at our main camp in June."
