Team Maryland (16U National) to Compete in USA Hockey National Championship

By Team Maryland Staff, 04/03/19, 11:00AM EDT

Team Maryland 16U (National) will travel to Michigan to compete in the USA Hockey National Championship. The 25-17-5 club powered their way through the Southeast District Championship last month with an undefeated record in Florida to advance to the championship.

The Coach Chris Ceransky led team qualified for the District Championship as the top seed in the tournament. In an exciting first game, Team Maryland took on the Nashville Jr. Predators. Team Maryland’s Sean Jones ended the game in thrilling fashion by scoring the game-winning goal in a shootout. Team Maryland dominated the rest of the tournament by beating the Florida Alliance, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Jr. Predators again in the Championship game.

The core of this Team Maryland club is made up of the same players that made it to Nationals last year. After going 0-3 in the tournament last year, this team is out for vengeance and to prove their skill on the national stage. Coach Ceransky has implemented a fast paced, run and gun style strategy that has been executed very well this season. This team relies on its depth and intangibles to rise above the competition.

“I have worked with this group of players a lot over the past couple years and the bond that has grown as a result of that is invaluable,” said Team Maryland (16U National) Head Coach Chris Ceransky. “We went into the offseason knowing exactly what was needed to improve and the boys knew how high my expectations were. This team competes with the elite talent across the country because of their effort, dedication, and heart. Creating an environment necessary for a team to fulfill its potential is difficult. I’m excited to see all of our hard work pay off this week.”

Team Maryland (16U National) is the lowest seed in the tournament, but this has not phased their confidence. They will face the toughest road to the promised land. Game 1 kicks off against the top-ranked team in the country, which is led by Team Maryland (18U) Zak Mbereko’s brother.

The round robin schedule is as follows:

4/3 Wednesday 11:00 AM vs. #1 Detroit Little Caesars

4/4 Thursday 1:1:00 PM. #8 St. Louis Jr. Blues

4/5 Friday 9:00 AM vs. Shattuck St. Mary’s
